U Mobile vs Webe

Which telco provider offer the best plan? This type of question arise when we decide to choose our telco provider. Some factors that may be taken into consideration are duration of contract, payment per month, high speed data allocated per month, coverage, and other benefits.

In Malaysia, there are lot of telco providers currently emerged in past few years. Around 2005, there might be only Celcom, Digi and Maxis. Nowadays, there are U Mobile, redOne, OneXOX, and many more.

Internet is considered important nowadays. During those old days, Internet was expensive so it might has limited usage. When the telco providers start to introduce affordable Internet plans, so Internet is important for human kind to do works, communicate, collaborate and interact.

Furthermore, invention of smartphones has lead us to use Internet in our single daily life, such as shopping, searching for information and for watching videos. Thus, it is crucial to choose the telco provider that offer the best Internet plan.

Currently, there are 2 telco provider which provide unlimited data plan to the consumers, which is U Mobile and Webe.

U Mobile

P78 is a new postpaid plan introduced by U Mobile. As stated at the code of the plan, 78 is actually the commitment required to be paid which is RM78 per month.

The data provided is unlimited, but capped at 5 Mbps. There is also unlimited Video-Onz, but the video is limited to SD streaming only. Those people who wish to watch high quality video at their high-end devices might be unhappy due to these restrictions.

One of the advantage of choosing U Mobile is it offers mobile hotspot for 10GB, but again the speed is capped at 5 Mbps. But still, it is better compared Webe, which you have to pay to use the mobile hotspot. However, currently Webe helds promotion of free 10GB mobile hotspot for their customers.

Besides, U Mobile offers 5GB free roaming data which is quite important for travellers when they on overseas. Plus, they offer free coupons every Thursday to be grabbed.

However, some of my friends complained over U Mobile’s coverage which is poor at rural areas. They argued that the coverage is only strong at Klang Valley and few major cities in Malaysia.

Webe

Webe is one of the subsidiary under TM.

Users have to pay RM79 per month for monthly commitment fees. This fees is relatively similar to which U Mobile has offer. However, Webe allow up to 5 users to be registered under one account.

For 2^nd to 4^th user, monthly commitment fees is reduced by RM10. This offer seems attractive for families, as they can share the payment fees. If there are 5 users registered under one account, the average monthly commitment fees would drop to RM61 per person.

Luckily, Webe doesn’t cap the speed of the unlimited data. However, they do not provide hotspot to their customers. They have to pay for extra RM15 for 1GB mobile hotspot. This might be appeared to be down side of Webe.

For the coverage, most of my friends who used Webe give a positive feedback regarding it.

Similarities

Both U Mobile and Webe provide unlimited local calls and SMS to their customers. Plus, there is no contract. Customers are free to switch to other telco if there is other attractive offer from telco provider.

Conclusion

Those offer are quite attractive. It may be an indicator of healthy competition between those telco providers to strive in providing best services to their customers. Customers also have lot of choices and alternatives for their telco provider.

However, for students which usually have cash flow problems, it is advised to choose the telco which is within their budget.

Hopefully there might be other attractive offer from telco providers in the future.
